Full of Sicilian sunshine, this gorgeous golden wine blended by M&S Winemaker Jeneve Williams sums up the stylish Grillo grape.
Honeyed aromas of ripe pear and orange are followed by sating smooth vanilla on the palate while a dash of apple crispness brings up the finish with a flourish. The grapes for this graceful wine were left a little longer on the vine and late-harvested for extra richness and panache.

Grillo is a more demure grape than Torrontés but it has a definite citrus theme and it also loads crucial, cleansing acidity onto the aftertaste which is vital in cutting through the lemon and parsley stuffing balls in the Tray bake chicken recipe.

A snappy Italian white in the fridge door on permanent standby means you can pour out a small/large glass for any visitors (depending on how long you want them to stay). This is way better than your average Italian; memorable without being showy. Just the right balance of bright, pear and lemon fruit, it’s made from the Grillo grape grown in Sicily. Add plenty of salty snacks.

This dull looking label hides a very smart piece of vinous expertise. Grillo is often used in Southern Italian or Sicilian white wines to bulk out a blend. In this beauty it stands centre stage and performs a scintillating solo. Fresh fruit salad notes with a compact finish make it a crowd-pleaser but there is more integrity than you might expect in the heart of this wonderfully inexpensive white wine.

...delivering a dry but golden-hued, ripe wine with a honeyed hint and flavour of baked yellow apples. One for creamy pasta sauces.

Southern Italy is becoming a good source of flavourful, affordable whites. This one, from Sicily, is textured and tasty with citrus and pear fruit lifted by some melony richness.
